04_GROWTH POSSIBILITIES
During their life cycle hospitals suffer several transformations due to the enlargements of certain areas or because of new equipment implementation. This implies that hospital buildings must have capacity to adapt and grow in order to fulfil new needs.
Hence, the design must have a “growing law” or “building DNA” that establishes future growing guidelines. The major growing needs currently appear in outpatient and diagnose units due to their high technological level.
Possible growth of the functional programme should be taken into account in the design process in order to prepare the structure, exterior spaces... and therefore avoid the growth if “tumors architecture.
